
Tom Thumb was founded on the 5th of September 1985. it
is convenientlysituated near Eastbourne's town centre and has
the added benefit of a enclosed, all weather garden and
parking to the rear.
The Nursery Director, Mrs Claire Townsend took over
ownership of the nursery in July 2005 but has
worked at tom
thumb since October 1995. Mrs Townsend holds an NVQ2 and
NVQ3 in Childcare and education, an NVQ4 in Childcare and
Management and is a qualified as a special Educational needs
Co-ordinator. Mrs Townsend has built up a caring team to staff
the nursery, all of whom are either qualified to NVQ3 in childcare
and education or are working towards one. it is also a requirement that all staff take up and regularly update paediatric First Aid training, basic food hygiene
certificates and child protection qualifications. The nursery currently has a further member of staff qualified as a Special Educational Needs co-ordinator and has a further three undertaking the
training in Spring 2009. The nursery has a non discriminatory approach to children with disabilities or those with additional educational or behavioral needs and welcomes children from all cultures and religious backgrounds.
Tom thumb is registered with Ofsted, our registration number is EY312715, and has received excellent inspection reports for both care and educational standards. Our latest report can be found on the ofsted website at www.ofsted.gov.uk
The Nursery is set on three floors all of which have a large classroom/playroom with an extensive range of equipment and creative materials for the children to use. Each floor has its own cloakroom and a set of toilets. the kindergarten and nursery floors also have nappy changing facilities.
There is a large enclosed rear garden for use by the children and is fitted with an all year round safety surface that allows it to be used in all weathers. It is equipped with climbing frames, slides, playhouses, scooters, trikes, and in the summer sand and water play facilities.
